Just Glad to Be Here

This is where I am right now.

Hubby's whole family moved up here and we try to get to see them when we can.

I just figured out the source of my current headache; the cold, the snow and the altitude.

I was born to be a sea-level California girl.

I love to visit but my body will be glad to get back to the ocean.

I made it all this way without giving in to winter depression. With the solstice only a few days away I am hopeful that I will soon be feeling better.

I'm glad the early Christians appeased the pagans by celebrating Christmas in the winter. It gives some of us a needed source of joy during the days of less light.

TRADITION!!

Even before we got romantic, Larry and I would start celebrating on his birthday (18 August) and end on my birthday (27 Aug.) As the years went by it became a tradition.

Now pretty much the whole month of August is up for grabs.

We started by going to the Pantages Theater and seeing these people:

Eventhough the Pantages is a movie theater and the acoustics are not the best and the bathrooms and lobby are too small, its lots of fun! Besides, how many times do you get to see Topol?

I love walking to the theater and reading the stars on the sidewalk. I really do act like a tourist.

Anyway that's how we started our birthdays' celebrations.

There are some of these left.

Tonight one of my elderly patients became confused and anxious. We could not convince her that she was in the hospital nor to return to her bed (at one am) and she would not cooperate with her planned care.

I called her physician (not something that is generally pleasant in the wee hours of the morning) and after I told him what was going on and answered his questions he offered to talk to the patient and try and calm her down.

It worked. She trusted him, her mentation returned to the hospital. In spite of the fact that she maintained that someone had stolen her purse she calmed enough to return to bed and try to sleep.

Although becoming rarer, good primary medical care does still exist. There are practitioners fighting for the health and well being of their patients.

I'm happy I get to witness the good stuff.

I must be really tired.
